How often should you bath your french bulldog?
Generally, once every 10 to 14 days is sufficient. If you’re an active person and take your french bulldog outside frequently, you might consider bathing your french bulldog more often, but it isn’t totally necessary.
I don’t want to bath my french bulldog too often, is that okay?
You should not bath your french bulldog more than two times per month. If you bath your french bulldog too often, you run the risk drying out the natural oils in their skin. Since french bulldogs have short and wiry hair they don’t conserve oils in their skin as well as some long-haired breeds. If you bath your french bulldog when they don’t need it, you can potentially strip the oils from their fur and skin that are naturally excreted to keep their skin and coat healthy. What is more important, is that you keep their facial folds, face, and eyes clean and clear of debris.
What you should be aware of while you bath your french bulldog
Generally, bathing is quick and simple, but don’t get in a hurry. Since you’re not going to bath your french bulldog too often, you should be thorough when do you give them a bath. Go slow and massage the shampoo into their coat. Rinse them extremely well to prevent residual soap from getting trapped in their fur.
Protect your french bulldog’s eyes. While you bath your french bulldog, be very, very careful and do not get soap in their eyes. Getting soap in your frenchie’s eyes while you bath them can cause corneal ulcers. Corneal ulcers can be caused by pet shampoos burning the corneal layers of your french bulldog’s eyeballs. It is extremely painful and uncomfortable for a french bulldog. It’s also a very expensive and time-consuming problem to fix. Your veterinarian will have to extract blood from your french bulldog to create a serum that you will then have to administer like eye drops. It’s a nasty problem and it’s best avoided altogether. Be cautious and keep the soap away from their eyes. Use a soft, clean, and wet cloth to gently wipe your french bulldog’s face (check out the video here) instead of washing their face during the bath.

My Frenchie loves having a shower. He likes so much that he s always waiting in the shower every time he knows it’s time for me to shower …like everyday. I have tried to shower him once every 3 days but it’s tough to turn him away as he enjoys a good spa. I know too much shower may dry his skin and so I use a very mild moisturising shampoo. Recently he develops red inflamed skin over the back and sheds his hair more. Is it because of the showering or he is just shedding ? I have put him on antihistamine and keep his diet with salmon supplement. I don’t know how to stop him looking forward to his shower. He sulks if he can’t his daily bath.
